The New York State Clean Slate Act (“Clean Slate Act”) takes effect Saturday, November 16, 2024. New Administration Likely to Result in Increased I-9 Audits and Raids
The new administration is likely to have a profound impact on immigration law and enforcement come January 20. As worksite enforcement and general immigration compliance issues were a primary focus of the Trump administration’s campaign, employers can expect an increase in the enforcement of immigration compliance, particularly ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) I-9 audits and raids. Under the Biden administration, this area of enforcement was more relaxed than it was under the previous Trump administration. Nebraskans Appear to Have Overwhelmingly Approved Paid Sick Time Ballot Measure
In the November 5, 2024 election, Nebraskans appear to have overwhelmingly voted in favor of Initiative Measure 436 to create a new statewide paid sick time law that would become operative on October 1, 2025. Although the results will not be certified by the Nebraska Secretary of State until early December, given the almost 75% majority vote reported with all precincts reporting, this Insight highlights what we know employers should know about the anticipated law. Missouri Appears to Have Approved Paid Sick and Safe Time Ballot Measure as Rumors of Potential Challenge Circulate
In the November 5, 2024 election, Missourians appear to have voted in favor of Proposition A to create a new statewide paid sick and safe time (“paid sick time”) law that would become operative on May 1, 2025 (along with increases to the state minimum wage).
